Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) - Saskatchewan
Offered by Early Childhood Intervention Program, Battlefords Inc.
Free home-based early intervention for families in the Battlefords area with children from birth to school entry who have, or are at risk of, a developmental delay. No diagnosis is needed.
About Battlefords ECIP
Battlefords ECIP is a non-profit organization that provides free, home-based support to families of young children who have a developmental delay, are at risk of a delay, or have a diagnosis. It is one of 14 regional Early Childhood Intervention Programs in Saskatchewan, which are funded by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education.
An ECIP consultant works with the family through play and everyday routines to support the child's motor, thinking, communication and social skills. Services include developmental screening, a Family Service Plan built with the family, help applying for other services and funding, coordination with other professionals, and support with the move into child care, a centre-based program or Kindergarten. The program also has a toy and resource lending library.
Autism and diagnosis
ECIP is not an autism-specific program. It serves children with a range of developmental needs, including children who have a diagnosis.
A diagnosis is not needed to start. Families who have noticed a delay, or who are waiting for an assessment, can ask about a referral.
What visits look like
Most visits take place in the family's home. Visits can also happen at child care, school, therapy appointments or First Nation clinics.
Visits are weekly, every two weeks or monthly, depending on the family's needs, and last at least one hour.
Home visits continue year-round, including summer and school breaks.
A parent or guardian must be present and take part in goal planning and activities.
ECIP does not provide transportation, but staff help families find options so medical and therapy appointments are not missed.
