The NDIS early childhood approach helps families of children younger than 9 who have developmental concerns, developmental delay, or disability.

Early childhood partners can connect families with information, community and mainstream services, short-term early supports, and the NDIS access process when longer-term funded support may be needed. A formal diagnosis is not required to contact an early childhood partner or receive early connections support.

NDIS eligibility rules distinguish developmental delay in children younger than 6 from disability access requirements. Contacting the early childhood pathway does not guarantee an NDIS-funded plan.
