The UNC TEACCH® Autism Program is a university-based, statewide clinical system in North Carolina. Founded in 1972, it provides clinical services, professional training, and research to support individuals on the autism spectrum and their families across the lifespan. TEACCH operates seven regional centers across North Carolina (Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington). Which center a family uses depends on the county where the family lives. Clinical services available through the regional centers include diagnostic evaluations, intervention/therapy services, support groups, education, and consultation. TEACCH also offers specialized programs related to employment and adult living, parent coaching, and transition support. Diagnostic evaluations are referral-based. TEACCH states it cannot schedule a diagnostic evaluation without required paperwork, including a professional referral form completed by a qualified professional who knows the client, a history form, a copy of the insurance card, and a photo ID. Families should download the current forms from the official referral page and return them to their local TEACCH Center. Clinical services are provided as part of the UNC Health Care system’s UNC Faculty Physicians group. How to apply

1) Use the official regional-center finder to identify the TEACCH Center for your county. 2) For diagnostic evaluation, download the required referral and history forms from the TEACCH diagnostic referral page. 3) Have a qualified professional complete the professional referral form. 4) Submit the completed forms, insurance card copy, and photo ID to your local TEACCH Center by mail, fax, or drop-off as directed. 5) Contact the local center with questions about the referral process or other clinical services.
