Free, voluntary registry that gives participating local police services emergency information about a vulnerable person in Waterloo, Guelph, Stratford, Brantford, and South Simcoe.

The Vulnerable Persons Registry (VPR) is a free, voluntary community-policing initiative in several Ontario communities. It is not a national Canadian registry.

The official FAQ says it is currently available to residents of Waterloo Region, the City of Guelph, Stratford, Brantford, and South Simcoe who may be vulnerable during emergencies. Examples include autistic people and people with dementia, acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, or another condition associated with safety or communication needs.

A vulnerable person, parent or legal guardian, or other legal authority completes the online registration and provides a face photo and information that can help designated police staff during an emergency. Registrants receive reminders, and a record that is not updated or removed within two years is automatically removed. Families should review the current privacy and access information before registering.

Eligibility

The person must live in a participating community and consider themselves vulnerable during emergencies. A parent, legal guardian, or other legal authority may register someone who cannot register or consent independently.

How to apply

Create an account, complete the online registration, include a current face photo, and submit the record. Keep the information current and use the account to update or remove it.
