<p>Enhanced Respite for Medically Fragile and/or Technology-Dependent Children (Ontario)</p><p>If you're caring for a child who is medically fragile or depends on technology to live, the day-to-day demands rarely stop. Ontario's Enhanced Respite program exists to help families in exactly this situation get funding for a break.</p><h2>What it is</h2><p>Enhanced Respite is a grant that gives funding directly to families of medically fragile and/or technology-dependent children so they can purchase respite services — that is, care that gives you, the primary caregiver, some relief. It can be received <strong>in addition to</strong> other respite supports your family already has.</p><p>It works as a <strong>reimbursement</strong> program: you arrange and pay for covered respite, then claim it back. The services and supports it covers are the same as those covered under the Special Services at Home (SSAH) program.</p><h2>Who is eligible</h2><p>The grant is for a child or youth who:</p><ul><li><p>is <strong>under 18</strong>,</p></li><li><p><strong>lives at home</strong>, and</p></li><li><p>is <strong>medically fragile and/or depends on a technological device</strong>, requiring care <strong>24 hours a day, 365 days a year</strong>.</p></li></ul><p>Qualifying children typically rely on medical and technological equipment. Examples include mechanical ventilators, apnea monitors, renal dialysis, urinary catheters, colostomy bags, intravenously-administered drugs, tracheotomy tube care and suctioning, oxygen support, or tube feeding.</p><h2>How much funding</h2><p>Families may be eligible for <strong>up to $4,130 per child, per year</strong>.</p><h2>What it can be used for</h2><p>The covered services and supports mirror the SSAH program — primarily respite and family relief care related to your child's needs, both in-home and out-of-home. The funding is meant to help you purchase that care, not to cover medical treatment itself.</p><h2>How to apply</h2><p>There is <strong>no separate online application form</strong> for Enhanced Respite. You apply by contacting the <strong>Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) regional office nearest you</strong> — that office is the single point of contact for the program. If you're claiming respite, you complete a section for each worker, and the worker also signs it (the form then doubles as your receipt).
