Masking (Masking / Camouflaging)
What it means
Consciously or unconsciously changing, hiding, or suppressing autistic traits to meet social expectations or avoid negative responses. Masking can require substantial effort and may affect wellbeing; a person's outward presentation does not reliably show their support needs.
