BC Autism Funding Transition 2026–2027: Current Program, New Benefits…

The current program has not ended yet

The Province of British Columbia says the existing Autism Funding program continues during the transition and remains open to new applications until March 2027. The program is scheduled to end on March 31, 2027, when the new disability-benefit system becomes the province-wide pathway.

Do not stop an approved service or assume that a new benefit has replaced a current agreement without a notice applying to that child. The province says ministry staff will contact current families as their transition is processed.

What is changing

• Some families receiving Autism Funding began transition to the BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit from July 2026.
• The new system uses functional support needs and expands eligibility beyond an autism diagnosis alone.
• The province says Autism Funding agreements are being aligned to the March 31, 2027 program end date.
• Expanded community-based services are being introduced in phases alongside the direct-funding benefits.

Family transition checklist

• Keep the latest agreement, balance information, invoices, receipts, approvals and ministry correspondence together.
• Confirm the agreement end date and the last date on which approved services can be delivered.
• Ask whether the child is in a transition cohort and whether any action is required before ministry contact.
• Confirm invoice and reimbursement deadlines that apply to the family's payment method.
• Update the ministry promptly when contact, guardianship, residency or other required account information changes.

If the family is applying for the first time

The official Autism Funding page states that new applications remain open until March 2027 and that the existing diagnosis and eligibility process continues during that period. Because an application may cross into the transition timeline, ask how a new approval would be handled and which benefit period would apply.

Use the current provincial application instructions and My Family Services links. Do not rely on an older third-party checklist for document requirements, funding periods or eligible expenses.

Questions for a service provider

• Can services be completed and invoiced within the family's confirmed benefit period?
• Who is responsible for checking that a service, travel cost, training expense, supply or equipment purchase is eligible?
• What is the cancellation or refund policy if the family's funding status changes?
• What records will the provider supply for direct payment, reimbursement or a later audit?

What this guide cannot determine

ARH cannot determine whether a particular child will receive either new benefit, how much a family will receive, or whether a proposed expense will be approved. Those decisions depend on the province's current process and the family's circumstances.
